The product comes completely disassembled and I recommend running through the parts list to ensure each piece is there, because mine contained the wrong pieces and I had to call the customer support number. Which I wanted to dock some stars for, but after a quick call to Heath's customer service I can't possibly drop the star rating. They were friendly fast and shipped the missing parts out right away. Wonderful when companies stand behind their products.
You will only need two tools to assemble this house (a Flat head screw driver, and some pliers) and several hours of free time.

Nicely built, and appears it will be long-lasting. The purple martins took to it immediately... I'm going to buy a couple more.

After reviewing customer reviews for the similar AH 12D model I was ready for a not so straight forward afternoon of assembling. This was not the case, although it does take several hours to assemble, it is by no means very difficult. I installed the house on a 15 ft pole in our back yard which borders a small lake and within minutes 3 martins landed on the house. It seems several apartments have since then been claimed by couples. Very gratifying indeed.
